Erin Powell, founder of Sound Design Build, provided expert architect services as both the architect and general contractor for this stunning custom home design in Kitty Hawk, NC. The design draws inspiration from local vernacular architecture and emphasizes outdoor living. A semi-wrapped porch offers shelter from the notorious OBX winds during winter months while allowing for abundant sunshine and picturesque sound front views.

Inside, the focus shifts to a series of glulam posts and beams that support the second floor. A double-height space elegantly frames both the entrance and the second-floor loft. An impressive indoor/outdoor two-story brick fireplace creates a division between the living room and the screened porch, with glass doors seamlessly connecting these two inviting spaces.

At the center of the living area, the kitchen serves as the heart of the home, strategically positioned so that when gazing out the west windows, there’s no land in sight. It truly creates the sensation of being one with the Sound!
